Lloyd WMA’s Rifle Tube Range Temporarily Closed on Weekdays

Range remains available for public use on weekends

FRANKFORT, KY — The rifle tube range at Curtis Gates Lloyd Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Grant County is temporarily closed on weekdays because of ongoing work to a nearby stream.

Northern Kentucky University’s Center for Environmental Restoration is reinforcing a stream channel at the outlet of a former pond basin. Part of the parking area at the tube range is being used to store rock for the project. An access lane adjacent to the down-range portion of the tube range also is being used to transport material and equipment to the work site.

The project is expected to be finished later this month, barring inclement weather or other conditions that could potentially delay the project’s completion.

The tube range remains open and available to the public on weekends. It is open from 9 a.m. until sunset on Saturdays and from noon until sunset on Sundays. For more information, call the WMA’s office at (859) 428-2262.

Tube shooting ranges are for rifles, muzzle loading guns and shotguns loaded with single projectile slugs. They are not for use by shooters using pistols or shotguns with pelleted loads.Persons using the ranges must have eye and ear protection.
