Bullet and Barrel Earns NSSF Five-Star Rating

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce that it has awarded its highest Five-Star rating for range excellence to Bullet and Barrel Indoor Range and Training Facility located in Huntsville, Alabama.

This impressive indoor shooting facility boasts 19 total lanes, nine at 15 yards, seven at 25 yards and three at 100 yards. All lanes can accommodate handguns and shotguns, as well as rifle rounds up to .30 caliber. Walk-ins are welcome at this public range, though its affordable membership plans, which include guest passes, ammunition discounts, training, priority lane reservations and special members-only events, are a big draw for Huntsville’s many active target shooters.

The range is supported by a well-stocked retail center that inventories a “carefully curated” selection of premium firearms brands, while an in-house gunsmith provides a wide variety of services ranging from basic firearms cleaning and scope mounting to barrel threading and Cerakoting. Bullet and Barrel is also a Class 3 FFL that specializes in suppressor and short-barreled rifle sales, streamlining the paperwork process and minimizing wait times via its Silencer Shop kiosk that eliminates having customers go to another location for fingerprints and photographs.

Firearms education is a primary focus of Bullet and Barrel. Its calendar of rotating classes, ranging from ladies-only handgun and virtual and range concealed carry training to the range’s own First Steps and handgun selection introductory classes keeps its three staff instructors busy. The range also partners with Noell Bishop, a former Green Beret, 20-year DEA career veteran and founder of Bishop 30 Solutions, who teaches specialty classes such as tactical carbine and advanced pistol skills.

“Bullet and Barrel has gone to great effort to provide a facility that meets the needs of a wide variety of shooters,” said Zach Snow, NSSF Director, Retail & Range Business Development. “Judging by the constant hive of activity at this range, the goodwill extended by the staff and the customers who clearly enjoy their time there, it’s easy to say those efforts paid off. We’re very pleased to welcome them to our Five-Star family.”

“We are honored to receive the Five-Star rating by the NSSF, the firearms industry’s most respected organization,” said Melanie Hammer Murray, Bullet and Barrel President. “We’ve been open just over a year and strive daily to create an atmosphere that is supportive of local experts and enthusiasts. At the same time, we never forget that we all had a first shot! It’s gratifying to know that first-time experiences our customers have at Bullet and Barrel become cherished memories.”

NSSF’s highly respected Star-Rating Range Program works to encourage ranges of all sizes and locations to excel. Applying for a rating requires answering a comprehensive questionnaire and business owner self-evaluation of the facilities, staff, community outreach and other criteria. Ranges that appear to meet the criteria for Four- or Five-Star rating receive an on-site evaluation by NSSF staff. NSSF Member ranges that meet a Three-Star rating are recognized for being a part of the Star-Rating range family and are provided guidance to improve their facilities and achieve the higher two ratings.
