S3DA Indoor National Championship

Williamsburg, KY – On March 14th and 15th 2019, Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) held the 4th S3DA Indoor National Championship in Cincinnati, Ohio. The event, held in conjunction with the National Field Archery Association (NFAA), continued the program’s explosive growth with over 1,000 archers from 97 different clubs and 23 teams from 23 states participating in this competition. During the competition, S3DA held their first ever seminar sessions that featured sponsors Tru Ball and Gold Tip, as well as S3DA alumni and others. For each seminar, individuals in attendance were given the chance to win a $25 gift card from Lancaster Archery Supply. Marilyn Dorsey and Kim Penn were extremely happy as they were two of the lucky winners.

S3DA Illinois State Coordinator, Jim Sharp said, “My wife, Sheri and I are so blessed to have 2 amazing daughters. I never thought 2 years ago when they came home and asked if they could participate in archery that we would be here. We have been able to do this journey as a family, whereas in most sports or hobbies, it is very hard to do as a family. Archery is all about family and this has allowed us to meet some very good people that we call good friends.”

“I watched two days of unbelievable competition. I watched North Carolina shooters that are fiercely competitive, have times of struggle, but they did not give up. At this level, the perception is, if you drop one point you are not going to place, but I watched archer after archer continue to fight not just themselves but for their teams and clubs. I am super proud of the North Carolina competitors and I am excited to see what 3-D season brings,” stated S3DA North Carolina State Coordinator, Renee Griffith.

Several colleges and universities attended the 2019 S3DA Indoor National Championship. Some of those collegiate-level schools were: University of the Cumberland’s (KY), Union College (KY), Lindsey Wilson College (KY), Campbellsville University (KY), Southeastern Illinois College (IL), Mt. Marty College (SD), Kentucky Christian University (KY) and many more. S3DA is very thankful for the opportunity to provide high school archers scholarship opportunities.

S3DA would like to thank the range officials, high school students who helped with the elementary and middle school classes, coaches, parents and volunteers for making this event possible. The National S3DA Indoor Championship was a great time for S3DA students, coaches, and their families. S3DA would like to extend our thanks to Competition Archery Media and BowJunky Media for the LIVE coverage and pictures of the event. We look forward to the S3DA 3-D and Outdoor Target National Championships on July 9th-13th, 2019 in Metropolis, Illinois.

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving

thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
