March 21, 2008 Matarese, Jr. Dominates Browning/Briley Mardi Gras Open
ACCOKEEK, MARYLAND — Beretta team shooter Anthony Matarese, Jr. won the first ever Browning/Briley Mardi Gras Open held in Jennings, Louisiana. His score of 192/200 bested his next closest competitor Gebben Miles, who shot a 190/200. Matarese’s winning performance was accomplished while using a Beretta Urika 2 Gold Sporting semi-automatic with a 30” barrel.
For the first time, the Browning/Briley World Open Championship combined with Cajun Elite Shooting Club’s G.P. Traps Mardi Gras Open to make one world-class shooting event – The Browning/Briley Mardi Gras Open. Hosted at the Cajun Elite Shooting Complex in Jennings, LA, this year’s main event was shot over two courses, Red & Blue, with Anthony Matarese, Jr. taking top honors. He officially joined Team Beretta this year but has always used a Beretta firearm when shooting competition or when hunting. Team Beretta shooter Scott Robertson finished Master 3rd in the main event with a 185/200 and RU in the FITASC with a 94/100 – just one bird off pace. Lady Team Beretta shooter Janet McDougall finished tied for 1st in the ladies main event. In the ensuing shoot-off with Deeann Massey, McDougall finished 2nd with a 162/200. McDougall placed Lady 2 in the FITASC Event as well. “Our shooters continue to place in competitions around the country.
