Team Hornady® 3-Gun Winning Streak Continues
Moots won first place in both the Heavy Metal Optics Law Enforcement Divisions, shooting Hornady® 308 Win 155-grain TAP® ammunition in his rifle, and Hornady® 45 Auto 230-grain ammunition in his pistol. "Having Hornady as my ammunition sponsor means I can always count on bullets that work and perform perfectly," he said. Milinazzo won the Wee-Man (smaller than 308 Win rifles) Division, shooting Hornady® 68 grain BTHP match bullets in his rifle, and Hornady® 40 caliber 180 grain HAP® bullets in his pistol. "The 68 grain BTHP bullets made the long range targets 'flash'," he explained. "The 180 grain HAP bullets are always accurate for the 50 to 100-yard pistol shots." Meanwhile on the east coast, Team Hornady® members Clint Upchurch and Jeff Cramblit, competed at the Bushmaster Tarheel 3-Gun Challenge at the Durham Pistol & Rifle Club in Haw River, North Carolina, June 2-3. Upchurch won the Overall Open Division, taking five out of eight stages, while Cramblit took third in the Tactical Optics Division. A total of 154 competitors shot semi-auto rifles, shotguns and pistols while running a series of stages designed to test their speed, accuracy and self-defense skills. Upchurch shot Hornady® 223 Rem 75-grain Steel Match® in his rifle, and Hornady® 9mm 125-grain HAP® bullets in his pistol. "The 75-grain Steel Match provided outstanding long range accuracy," said Upchurch. "I chose the 125-grain for its excellent feeding characteristics and superb accuracy." His plan, which combined perfectly timing the targets with a rock solid position, allowed him to shoot the long-range targets quickly and cleanly. Cramblit shot Hornady® 223 Rem 53-grain Superformance® in his rifle, and Hornady® 124-grain XTP® handloads in his pistol. "The match was a little rifle heavy so the Superformance accuracy, speed, and high ballistic co-efficient were definite advantages in my outcome," he said. Team Hornady® members Clint Upchurch, Rob Romero and Jansen Jones won the Colt 3 Man 3 Gun Championship, May 20, in Topton, Pennsylvania. This is the first in a two-part series of 3 gun matches designed to be shot with 3-man teams. The second event will take place July 14-15 in West Virginia.
