Team Hornady® Presents at Ozark 3-Gun Championship and Area 7 USPSA Championship
Grand Island, NE - Team Hornady® member, Adam Popplewell, finished third out of 150 competitors in the Tactical Optics division at the fourth annual Adams Arms Ozark 3-Gun Championship, a 3-Gun Nation point series match held September 7-9, 2012, on a private 1,000-acre hunting reserve in Lynn Creek, Missouri. Popplewell won three of the nine stages shooting Hornady® 124 grain TAP® in his 9mm pistol, and Hornady® 223 Rem 75 grain Steel Match® ammunition in his rifle.
"This match required precision shooting, and is more challenging than most 3-Gun matches from a small target standpoint," said Popplewell. "Hornady provides the performance I count on every time." Targets were as close as 15 yards in pastures and uneven terrain. One stage required competitors to shoot across a 20-acre lake in addition to zeroing in on long-range rifle targets set to 450 yards along timber trails. Kirk Broyles, Match Founder and Director said, "Competitors could decide what firearm they wanted to use on several stages, so no one stage was shot the same way. Our stage designs allowed competitors to put together an individualized game plan that would showcase their mental and technical shooting skills." Team Hornady® was well represented on the east coast, as well, where Max Michel won his fourth Open Division title at the Area 7 USPSA Championship, September 7-9, 2012 at the Harvard Sportsmen's Club in Harvard, Massachusetts. Michel won five of the 10 stages, and finished in the top three of all 10, shooting Hornady® 125 grain HAP® bullets in his pistol. Michel said, "Hornady 125 grain bullets are my favorite round because of their accuracy and reliability. One stage required us to shoot from various platforms, so we had to be quick on our feet. The trick was focusing on shooting instead of the walking." Match Director Dan Hurley, said, "All 10 stages were designed by competitors from the Harvard Sportsmen's Club and USPSA clubs in the Northeast. We set targets as close as three yards and long shots out to 30 yards. Speed, agility and marksmanship were key to winning the division title."
