Tonight on American Rifleman TV: The Handguns of August, Part 3

FAIRFAX, Va.-Tonight, "American Rifleman TV" airs Part 3 of its four-part series, "The Handguns of August," which features the pistols and revolvers used throughout The Great War. This week, the focus is on France and Belgium, nations invaded by Imperial Germany in August 1914. While the French were world leaders in rifle and machine gun design a century ago, not so much when it came to handguns. The standard sidearm of the "poilu" was the underpowered Model 1892 revolver, or even worse, the obsolete Model 1873, at least until sufficient numbers of Spanish-made Ruby pistol (often of dubious metallurgy and interchangeability) in .32 ACP could be obtained. The Belgians, thankfully, had the genius of John Moses Browning to turn to with the Model 1900, Model 1903 and, of course, the Model 1910. Their handguns actually worked. In this week's "Rifleman Review," we shoot Hornady's Custom Lite ammo. For "I Have This Old Gun ..." we look at the Soviet Tokarev pistol.
