Legally Armed America Raises Awareness for Autism

Lake Charles, LA – – Legally Armed America Inc., the pro-gun network of companies dedicated to preserving the Second Amendment and enriching the shooting sports lifestyle, today announced a fundraising campaign designed toincrease awareness of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in association with National Autism Awareness Month beginning April 1, 2015.

"Legally Armed America and social networking community, Gun District, have joined forces to boost the understanding of ASD and to raise funds for children with autism and other developmental delays," says Legally Armed America President and Founder, Paul Glasco. "To celebrate the phenomenal success of the launch of our pro-gun social community, Gun District, we've decided to tie our fundraising efforts for autism awareness to member growth. For every 1,000 new Gun District members, we're contributing $100 to a local autism center for children in Lake Charles, LA," he said.

Christy Jones, Founder and Executive Director of Louisiana's St. Nicholas Center for Children, explains that autism spectrum disorder is a complex disorder of brain development that can cause significant social, communication, and behavioral challenges. "Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability, and children are being diagnosed with autism every day," she said.

Recent statistics state that one in every 68 American school-aged children is diagnosed with ASD. While the cause is unknown and there is no cure, "There is hope," said Glasco. According to the Surgeon General, early intensive behavioral intervention can help families achieve the best outcome for their child. "We have first-hand experience in the success of a comprehensive program in dealing with autism, as our own 6-year-old son has ASD," Glasco added. "The fun loving, educational environment at the St. Nicholas Center nurtures his individual needs and makes a huge difference to our lives, but most importantly, to his."

According to Jones, "With support from Legally Armed America and Gun District members, we will be able to continue to expand and enhance opportunities to improve quality of life for our children at the Center and their families."

Legally Armed America has already supplied the Center with one fully functional computer workstation on which children may receive therapy and reinforcement. In 2014, Windham Weaponry teamed with Legally Armed America to create a custom AR-15, featuring a blue trigger signifying support for autism. For every rifle sold, Legally Armed America makes a contribution to the St. Nicholas Center for Children.

"Simply join Gun District as a member, and for every 1,000 people, we'll cut another $100 check to St. Nicholas Center for Children," Glasco said. "The more people that join, the more children we can help."
