Whitetails Unlimited Provides $75,000 in NASP Grants

During the past fiscal year Whitetails Unlimited provided more than $75,000 in grant funding to school systems for the National Archery in the Schools Program. In addition, WTU became a scholarship sponsor for the NASP National 3-D Tournament held in Louisville, Kentucky, earlier this month.

Whitetails Unlimited has been a steadfast supporter of NASP over the last decade, and the number of WTU grants has steadily increased over that time.

WTU President Jeff Schinkten attended the 3-D tournament and had the opportunity to once again spend some time with Roy Grimes, CEO and president of NASP. During the conversation, Roy thanked WTU for its loyal and continued support of their program.

"In reality, we at WTU want to offer our thanks to everyone at NASP for their outstanding work in establishing and expanding this incredible program," said Schinkten. "Because of their commitment and hard work, millions of youngsters are learning about archery, safety, and the pride that comes from accomplishment. We're glad we can help."

NASP goes hand-in-hand with WTU's Staying on Target program, an initiative to get children off the couch, out of the house, and involved in the shooting sports – both firearm and archery.

NASP's mission is to promote student education through participation in the sport of archery, with a focus on providing international-style target archery training in physical education classes for grades 4 through 12. State-of-the-art equipment is used and designed to fit every student. The core content of the program covers the history of archery, safety, shooting techniques, equipment, mental concentration, and self-improvement.

In a very short time, NASP has grown to be the largest youth archery program in the world. During the 2013-14 school year, 2.1 million students participated in NASP as part of their physical education curriculum. This is an amazing success story, and many local Whitetails Unlimited chapters are awarding grants to fund NASP programs for schools in their area.

Teachers and administrators have reported that NASP is extremely successful in engaging all students. The program crosses gender and strength lines, putting all school children on an even playing field. Before presenting the 2-week archery course, teachers undergo a certification process through the National Archery in the Schools Program.

Of utmost importance to WTU is the fact that NASP promotes participation in the shooting sports in a controlled, safe, and educational environment.
