New York's First Scholastic Trap Shooting Team to Be Special Exhibitor at 2016 Clayton Gun Show

Clayton, NY. The first scholastic trap shooting team in New York State has been named as the featured exhibitors for the August 20-21, 2016 Clayton Gun Show in Clayton, NY.

The Clayton Rotary Club has announced the Belleville Henderson Central School Trap Shooting Team to be its special guest among the more than 60 exhibitors with new and antique firearms, shooting sport accessories, knives, outdoor gear, and guide services at Cerow Recreation Park Arena at 615 E. Line Road in Clayton, NY, for the August show.

'The Belleville Henderson Central School Trap Shooting Team will bring a fresh excitement to our 2016 show with a focus on encouraging youth and families to enjoy shooting and outdoor sports,' said Clayton Rotary Club President Tony Pisarski.

Nicknamed The Orange Crush, the team of students in grades 6 through 12 competes in the New York State High School Clay Target League, overseen by the USA High School Clay Target League. More than 8,600 students participate on 425-plus school teams nationwide. League information will be available at the Belleville Henderson Central School Scholastic Trap Shooting Team exhibit at the Clayton Gun Show.

Each team member must have a valid New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Hunter Education and Firearms Safety certificate. The Belleville Henderson team is coached by David Winters, assisted by Joel Grimshaw and Joshua Grimshaw. The team practices at the Henderson Fish and Game Club.

Other area schools that have formed trap teams since the Belleville Henderson team was established in February 2016 include Beaver River Central, Carthage Central, Copenhagen Central, Sackets Harbor Central schools.

Legislation, sponsored by NYS Senator Joe Griffo, who-chairs the New York State Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus with NYS Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, and currently in review by other state legislators, would lower the minimum age for big game hunting with a firearm in the state to 12. Conservation and outdoors advocates are encouraging the legislation as a way to encourage youth participation in outdoor activities.

The Clayton Gun Show hours are 8:30 am-5 pm Saturday, August 20 and 9 am-4 pm Sunday, August 21. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for military with ID; children under 12 enter free. This show is a Yellow Ribbon event for military. Show proceeds benefit the local and international project work of the Clayton Rotary Club. The 2016 show is sponsored by the Clipper Inn, Clayton, NY.
