Virginia's Ft. Lee Dusters Take JV Division Skeet National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Virginia's Ft. Lee Dusters took the Junior Varsity Division Skeet title with a final target count of 565 during the week-long competition at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

The Dusters were led by Hunter Belch of Suffolk with 193, followed by Logan R. Whitley of Suffolk with 189 and Zachary Wells of Blackstone with 183.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Volunteer State's Cumberland County Clay Crushers finished second with 563 and were led by Clint Kemmer of Crossville with 189. Emmer was backed up by a pair of Crossville shotgunners, Taylor Webb with 188 and Justin Reed with 186.

The Lake Oconee Shotgun Team from Georgia placed third with 560. Aaron Copelan of Eatonton led with 196, followed by Jaden Grimes of Eatonton with 188 and Nash Sinclair of Eatonton with 176.

Florida's Young Guns At Quail Creek, who also finished wit 560 in regulation, finished fourth with Joseph Pinchin of Pembrook Pines breaking 192 to lead the squad. Ashley Blenker of Cooper City, the division's Women's Top Gun, broke 191 while Michael Pilch of Pompano Beach with 177.

Rounding out the top five was Georgia's Forest City Juniors who broke a combined 555 targets. Colin Davis of Statesboro led Forest City with 193, followed by Richmond Hill shooters Lance and Tripp who broke 185 and 177 targets each.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
