Michigan's KCCL Orange Crushers Win Intermediate/Advanced Div. Skeet National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Intermediate/Advanced Division squad picked up a second Skeet total for Michigan's KCCL Orange Crushers during competition at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

Jadon Butler of Sherdian led with 193, followed by Soren Hanson of Lowell with 192 and Jake Lotterman of Ada with 190, as the KCCL Orange Crushers finished with 575 out of 600 possible targets to win the national title.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Tennessee's McKenzie Shooting Sports' Caba Coyotes took second with 562. Drew Beeler of McKenzie led the team with 190, followed by Nathan Nanny of McKenzie with 187 and Logan Green of McKenzie with 185.

Third place went to Georgia's Forest City Juniors. Jake Summerford, Walker McDonald and Kline Barfield of Savannah combined for 555, breaking 186, 185 and 184 targets respectively.

Another Georgia squad, the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team, placed fourth just one target back with 554. Riley Downs of Mitchell led the team with 191, followed by Hagen Young of McIntyre with 188 and Jonah Grimes of Eatonton with 175.

The Smokin Guns of Montana finished fifth with 548 targets. The division's Top Gun, Preston Bailey of Columbus, led with 196. Teammates Connor Bergman and Chase Stirm of Laurel added another 183 and 169 each.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
