Central Falcons of Wisconsin Take Third National Title at SCTP Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Wisconsin teams swept the top four spots in the High School Division in Sporting Clays, with the Central Falcons taking the title, at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio. This is the third national title the Falcons have won at the youth shooting event.

Led by John Dietz of Kenosha who broke 177 of 200 targets, the Central Falcons finished with a total target count of 504. Teammates Hunter Conrad of Bristol and Scott Hanover of Kenosha added another 171 and 156 each.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Second place went to the Hudson Raider SCTP Shooting Club with 497 targets. Tyler Melloy led with 177, followed by Riley Meyer with 165 and Cody Cicha with 155. All three shooters are from Hudson, Wisconsin.

The Kettle Moraine Lasers Trap Team placed third with a trio of Dousman, Wisconsin shooters breaking a total of 494 targets. Matthew Yaresh led with 172, followed by Justin Rauser with 163 and Jack Meixelsperger with 159.

The Marquette Hilltoppers Trap Team finished fourth with 492. Ben Wacker of Waukesha was the squad's top shooter with 170, followed by Harlan Schwanebeck of Milwaukee with 166 and Maxwell Asala of West Allis with 156.

The only non-Badger State team to finish in the top five was the Allen Eagles Competitive Shooting Team from Texas. The Lone Star squad was led by Lake Bishop with 170, followed by Nick Hawkins with 162 and Hunter Alford with 159. All three are from Allen, Texas.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
