Florida's FishHawk Dynasty Rookies Cruise To Sporting Clays National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – By an 85 target margin, the FishHawk Dynasty squad from Florida cruised to victory, and a national title, in the Rookie Division in Sporting Clays at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

Trevor Hinton of Riverview, the division's Top Gun with 152, led the FishHawk Dynasty shooters as they posted a final target count of 431. Hinton was backed up by Holden Pollock of Myakka City with 145 and Hale Sollmann of Plant City with 134.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Second place went to the Cumberland County Clay Crushers out of Tennessee who were also led by a Top Gun. Carey Garrison of Crossville was recognized as the division's female Top Gun for her score of 127 targets. Fellow Crossville shooters Noah Gernt and Isaac Sherrill added another 116 and 103, respectively, towards the squad's 346 total.

The McKenzie Shooting Sports, also from Tennessee, took third with 341 targets. The McKenzie squad was led by Drew Smith of Lavinia with 134, followed by Shooter Nelson of Trezevant with 123 and Nickey Bowers of Dresden with 84.

Wisconsin's Flyway Clay Slayers, with 329 targets, finished fourth. The Clay Slayers' effort was headed by Noah Fleischer of Theresa with 125, followed by Eyan Marx of Mayville with 106 and Jacob Vander Schaaf of Mayville with 98.

Rounding out the top five with 316 total targets were the Young Guns At Quail Creek. The Florida squad was led by Jackson Barben of Avon Park with 113, followed by A.J. Bennett of Lake Wales with 104 and Kiersten Sales of Okeechobee with 99.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
