Rocky Mountain Clay Busters Score Varsity Div. Sporing Clays National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Rocky Mountain Clay Busters out of Colorado broke 545 of 600 targets to hold off squads from Florida and Georgia on their way to winning the Varsity Division title during competition at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Rocky Mountain Clay Busters were led by the division's Top Gun, Dalton Kirchhoefer of Parker, who broke 195 of his 200 targets on the Sporting Clays course. Jacob Dame of Franktown finished with 190 while Cameron Dines of Parker added another 160.

Second place went to the Young Guns At Quail Creek of Florida with 536. The Young Guns were led by Nicholas Blenker of Cooper City with 182, followed by Clayton Cutshall of Alva with 181 and Jay Bible of Sebring with 173.

With 535 targets, the Brookline Top Shots from Georgia took third. Kevin Bandt of Fort Valley finished with 187 while Morgan E. Goette of Milledgeville, the division's female Top Gun, added 184. Davis Jones of Monticello contributed another 164 towards the team's total.

Fourth place went to a second squad from Florida's Young Guns At Quail Creek. Layton Chambers of Ft. Pierce led with 180, followed by Andrew Loitz of Coral Springs with 176 and Ryan Stubblefield of Port St. Lucie with 166. The squad finished with a total target count of 522.

Rounding out the top five were the Central Georgia Elite Shooters wit 519. Alexis Eidson of Byron was their top shooter with 181, followed by Ricky Coleman and Austin Hartley, both of Macon, with 171 and 167, respectively.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
