Sporting Clays Earns Mason-Dixon Clay Busters Third Collegiate Div. National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – With a national title already in Trap and Doubles Skeet, Pennsylvania's Mason-Dixon Clay Busters outgunned Jacksonville University and the KCCL Orange Crushers on the Sporting Clays course to win their third Collegiate Division title at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.

Breaking 529 of their 600 targets, the Mason-Dixon Clay Busters were led by Preston Whiteman of Camp Hill, Pa. with 186. Shelby Evens of Crawford, Ga., the women's Top Gun in the division, added 172 while Mark Beardsley of Glen Rock, Pa. finished one target back with 171.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Florida's Jacksonville University Sporting, Skeet & Trap Team took second with 519. Parker Woodring of Carmichaels, Pa. was the squad's top shooter with 179, followed by Sean Hensley of Lake Panasofkee, Fla. with 173 and Trysten Routledge of Jacksonville, Pa. with 167.

Third place went to Michgan's KCCL Orange Crushers with 509. Logan Wilcox of Lowell led the Orange Crushers with 174, followed by Tyler Moore of Grand Rapids with 168 and Hunter Brander of Ada with 167.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
