CHULA VISTA, California - Competition at the U.S. National Outdoor Collegiate Championships today at the Elite Athlete Training Center wrapped the second day of qualification and the World University Games - U.S. Team Trials, to name the All-American teams and the athletes on the U.S. Team for the World University Games. The team rounds were also contested.

Texas A&M's Allie Blazek took the top qualification seed and punched a ticket to Taipei for the World University Games later this summer. After qualification, she shared: "The competition was a lot of fun, the wind was a little tough, especially today, but I did well and enjoyed a fun two days of shooting. The best part of this tournament for me is the aspect of competing as part of a team - I love shooting with my friends and I'm really excited for the team rounds."

The A&M team went on to win bowhunter women's gold and men's silver, recurve men's bronze, recurve women's silver and compound women's bronze.

Matthew Zumbo of Golden West University also scored first for the men's recurve World University Games team trials. He commented: "The first day was alright; it could have gone a little better, but I went back to my hotel room, did some video analysis and was able to really get my form together and shoot well enough for a good performance. I've shot with David Wolfe (who also made the team) on the previous U.S. collegiate international team and he's really stepped it up over the past few years and Dillon [McMenamy, the other teammate] is a good shot. Overall I think we have a good team, and by the time we depart for the trip, we'll be able to perform solidly and hopefully make a good impression."

Columbia University's women's teams took gold for both the recurve and compound events. Team Captain Joy Chang shared: "Our hard work this year has really paid off." On the addition of a permanent archery facility to the campus this year, Chang added: "Having our own space in this year really helped we have had some great additions to the team this year with our new freshmen; it's exciting to see them making the world team." First year students Christine Kim and Sophia Strachan will both compete in Taipei this summer for the World University Games team.

In the biggest team bracket on the field, Michigan State University took the compound men's gold in a shoot off with Northern Arizona University with a perfect score to NAU's 29. Their compound women also won silver and the bowhunter men's squad, made up entirely of rookies took 4
th place, as did their female counterparts. Eric Beaudry commented on the success of the team: "They never gave up and continually battled. They were down most of their matches starting out and continued to battle back and shoot strong. They forced a few shoot offs and then the men shot a perfect score to win that shoot off and in other matches we were down and just continued battling to come back and win those matches. Go Green! Go white!"

In the barebow competitions, Berkeley took gold in both the men's and women's events.
