40th Anniversary Letter to Customers from Larry Potterfield of MidwayUSA
It was high noon on the 18th of June, 1977 when we opened for business. After a 6-year hitch in the Air Force, I turned my lifelong love of guns, hunting and shooting into a career. But it takes a lot more than 'love of the game' to be successful. For me, it took a loving wife, a supportive family, some intuitive competence, a little business acumen, great Employees, and a bunch of Loyal Customers.
It's been 40 years now, since Brenda and I greeted our first Customer in that small 1,600 square foot gun shop in Columbia, MO. A lot has changed since '77, but four things have held up: Customers come first, Employees are like family, Suppliers are our friends and partners, and we continuously improve everything – always. These days, I'm not able to thank each Customer face-to-face like when we first opened shop, so please accept my personal thanks for helping make MidwayUSA so successful.
It's Customers like you that help the shooting sports thrive by actively participating, donating and passing your love of the outdoors on to future generations. It's also organizations like the National Rifle Association, who fights for our 2nd Amendment rights, and Key Conservation Groups like Dallas Safari Club, Mule Deer Foundation, Pheasants Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Safari Club International, Wild Sheep Foundation and many others who promote conservation and advocate for hunters' rights to help sustain our way of life. We wouldn't be here today or tomorrow without any of you.
