Jonathan Shue, Civilian Pistol Marksman, Stuns Military Shooters to Claim NRA National Pistol Champion Title

PITTSBURGH, PA – Jonathan Shue of Cabot Guns, a top manufacturer of American-made precision firearms, stunned military shooters at this year's NRA National Pistol Championship by taking first place and winning the Gold at the NRA National Matches. Shue, a former Marine now competing as a civilian for Team Cabot Guns, emerged on top in matches that involved 468 competitors from around the world in the three-day tournament at historic Camp Perry in Port Clinton Ohio.

To secure the title of National Champion, Shue finished the tournament with a score of 2638 out of a possible 2700. This included 126 x's and two points ahead of U.S. Army Marksman Adam Sokolowski. Shue decisively beat the best military and industry marksmen, including competitors from the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps. "There's a new Sheriff in town at Camp Perry … and he has a beard," Bianchin added jokingly about Shue's recognizable and notable beard. In addition to the overall aggregate Championship, Shue also won the Cabot Guns NRA National Center Fire Championship at Camp Perry.

The tournament also featured a strong performance by Team Cabot. Among 56 teams, Team Cabot was the highest scoring industry team. They placed third overall at the tournament, ahead of perennial contenders from the industry and military. They also won Silver at the .45 Caliber Championship Match. The team members are William Bethards (captain), Jon Shue, Grayson Palmer and Lee Fleming.

The 115-year-old tournament is known as "The World Series of Shooting." Each year the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines send their top marksmen to compete alongside law enforcement, state organizations, international shooters, industry, clubs and civilians. It involves three stages of fire: Slow fire, timed fire and rapid fire.

Bullseye competition is the pinnacle of accuracy refinement because it is entirely based around accuracy aspects of pistol shooting. Bullseye is the shooting sport where the shooter attempts to hit a 1.7-inch bullseye target at distances of 25 and 50 yards, one-handed. Each competitor will attempt 270 shots over the tournament where a Bullseye - a shot scored within the ten-ring - counts for 10 points while shots that land in concentric larger circle receive few points. Weather condition were challenging this year as day two of the tournament saw winds of 25 to 30 miles per hour.
