Jacksonville Univ. Grabs 4th National Title With Skeet Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Jacksonville (Fla.) University Sporting Clays, Skeet & Trap Team proved to be a force to be reckoned with when they picked up yet another national title, this time in Skeet, during competition at the 2017 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships. Jacksonville previously picked up the Doubles Trap, Doubles Skeet and Sporting Clays titles.

The Jacksonville squad dominated collegiate division competition by breaking 587 of 600 targets. Joseph DeYoung of Grand Rapids (Mich.) led with 197 while Sean Hensley of Lake Panasofkee (Fla.) and Parker Woodring of Carmichaels (Pa.) each added 195.

The collegiate squad from the Kent County Conservation League's (KCCL) Orange Crushers turned in a second place performance with 576 targets broken. Tyler Moore of Grand Rapids was the team's top shooter with 196. Hunter Derenski of Sixlakes and Logan Wilcox of Lowell both broke another 190 targets.

Tennessee's Bethel University finished third with their final target count of 565. Leading the way was Dylan Owens of McKenzie with 192 followed by Hayden Price of Maryville with 188 and Nathan Ford of Maryville with 185.

Held July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, more than 2,300 athletes representing 29 states faced over one million clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 14,800 students and more than 3,300 adult volunteers across 45 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
