Process Engineers develop manufacturing processes to manufacture New Product Development (NPD) parts.  Their responsibilities revolve around three critical test pilot lots.



  • Design Concept Validation – Make parts by any method and as quickly as possible for initial design testing.


  • Design Process Validation – Establish the production process and produce parts to validate the manufacturing process and the design.


  • Production Pilot Lot – Finalize manufacturing process so production can make parts to validate and approve the design and the manufacturing process readiness.


Process Engineers need to resolve all processing issues such as fixtures, cutting tools and gauging.  In addition to developing new processes existing issues must be resolved as well.  They need to do all CNC programming on any/all necessary equipment within the plant.  They need to provide clear direction for the Tool Designers and CMM programmers.  Even though the tool designs and CMM programming may be done by someone else they need to review, approve and are ultimately responsible.  Documented project deadlines must be met unless other priorities are assigned or circumstance outside control intervenes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Create Solid Works manufacturing solid models to define the process as needed.


  • Read and interpret complex part drawings and understand product design intent.


  • High level CNC programming including macro and probing knowledge is required.


  • CNC machine setup, debugging and optimizing skills are needed.


  • Insure cutting tools, gauges, fixtures, equipment, routings and CNC programs are fully defined, documented and implemented.  Update ISO documents as needed.


  • Understand the needs of the team, and be able to work in a manner that facilitates teamwork.


  • Work for continual process improvements.


  • Use and understand ASME Y14.5 1994-2009 impact on designs and drawing tolerances.


  • Must have full knowledge of all types of standard and special designed cutters.


  • Work closely with multiple groups of diverse interest (Product Engineering, Marketing, Production, Quality, Purchasing, Accounting, etc.) while maintain project focus.


  • Work with minimal supervision and use appropriate project management techniques to meet scheduled completion dates.  Review all issues with supervisor.


  • Use various file management software.


  • Other duties may be assigned.


PROCESS ENGINEER





    • Responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment, and plants (from pilot to fully operational) to achieve the production goals of the organization. Identifies and develops process and equipment needed to produce specific products, parts, and components. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.


    • 0-5 Years or more experience preferred developing Production Processes.






  • Process Development work with direct supervision and guidance.


  • Manage work to meet requested completion dates.


  • Create Production Process for NPD new parts:








      • Add to existing production processes


      • Program CNC Basic Level 2 ½ axis


      • Modify existing CNC probing programs


      • Understand CNC Macro Programs






QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Experience, Competencies and Education



    • Bachelor in Science Engineering Degree or equivalent.


    • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience.  SolidWorks preferred.


    • Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) experience.  Master CAM preferred.


    • Experience with establishing high volume manufacturing processes.


    • Strong communication, presentation & organizational skills.


    • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Outlook).






  • Language Skills



    • Good command of the English language demonstrating excellent verbal and written communication skills.




TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:



  • Complete all necessary training as required by assigned department and position.


  • Participate in and follow all company initiatives.


  • Participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, Lean, 5S, etc.).


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:



  • Works in an office environment


  • Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard for extended periods of time


  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally


  • Able to stand at production machine to debug CNC programs and run parts.


PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:



  • Safety glasses with side shields when on factory floor.


  • The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department.  This includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.


  • All employees are required to apply ergonomic correctness to all job tasks.


  • May be required depending on position:




  • Annual vision update in Medical Department.


  • Involvement in the hearing conservation program.


  • Involvement in the lead surveillance program.


  • Wearing of safety certified shoes/boots.


  • Participation in the stretching program.
