The Engineering Project Manager will manage all aspects of firearms product development projects, from beginning to end, with direct responsibility for project execution while leading indirect cross-functional team(s) to accomplish specific objectives in a given time frame and with available resources.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Essential duties include the following - other duties may be assigned:
  • Be responsible and accountable for assigned project's strategy, scope of work, schedule, budget, risk mitigation plan, and any activity tied to the commercial success of the project.
  • In close collaboration with the functional department leaders, secure and manage resources for a portfolio of new product and line extension projects
  • Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among projects
  • Maintain status of all projects in his/her portfolio and manage risks/opportunities to ensure the overall project goals are met.
  • Instill a sense of accountability among team members and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned area of responsibility.
  • Develop effective stakeholder management strategies and execution plans to ensure all vital business relationships are secured.
  • Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals on time and on budget.
  • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within project team members.
  • Develop best practice and tools for project execution and management.
  • Develop and deliver progress reports, proposals, and presentations to the project Sponsor and the Executive team.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience, Competencies and Education
  • Candidates must have BS in Mechanical Engineering or significant equivalent experience
  • Project management certification is required
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative and analytical problem-solving skills and be able to think quickly about how to address cross-functional problems.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Experience with computer project management software, preferably MS Project.
  • Highly organized and motivated, with strong ability to manage/monitor detail
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Language Skills
  • Must have working command of the English language
  • Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language
  • Must be able to communicate in English verbally and in writing (basic verbal instructions, simple written memos and instructions)
  • Computer Skills
  • Solid computer skills, with demonstrated proficiency in MS word, Excel and Outlook
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Project
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registration
  • Product Management Certification preferred
  • Ability to obtain MA FID/LTC preferred
  • TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
  • Participate in and follow all company initiatives
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects (Kaizen events, 5S, etc)

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
  • Mandatory wearing of certified safety glasses
  • The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear
  • All employees are required to apply ergonomic principles to all job tasks

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Continuous: standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing/pulling, and reaching
  • Occasional: kneeling, sitting, squatting, overhead work, fine and gross upper body motor movement
  • Maximum lift: to 30 pounds and assisted lifting
  • Occasional lifting: 0 to 30 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting
  • Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting
