Pavlock Takes First at 2017 Rimfire Challenge

CARROLL, IOWA –– More than 350 competition shooters, ranging in age from 7 to 70, showed up for the NSSF's 2017 Rimfire Challenge World Championship. The event took place at Cavern Cove Competition Range in Woodville, Alabama, on Oct. 14 and 15.

"We would like to join the shooters in thanking the staff of Cavern Cove for putting on one heck of a match. It is never easy to run a match of this size, but by all accounts, it was very well run. Job well done to their entire team," said Scott Volquartsen, president of Volquartsen Firearms.

Competitors shot 14 stages – 7 set for .22-caliber rifle and 7 set for .22-caliber handgun. Shooters also chose among 5 side matches that offered additional prizes. A press release from the NSSF highlights one of the best outcomes of the competition: "In a testament to the powerful and positive influence the Rimfire Challenge has had on young shooters and family involvement, 4 of the top 10 match finishers came from the Junior category."

It proved to be a great weekend for as six of the Top 10 spots featured Volquartsen firearms. Congratulations to Team Volquartsen shooter Kolby Pavlock led the way as he finished first overall for an impressive third consecutive year.

Kolby had this to say coming off his championship weekend, "I want to thank all of the people that made the match possible. I had a great time and can't wait for next year's match."

Along with the excitement of last weekend's competition results came an important industry announcement: Michael Bane and Ken Jorgensen, longtime supporters of rimfire competition, will be transitioning the Rimfire Challenge from the NSSF to the newly formed Rimfire Challenge Shooting Association. The transition takes place Jan. 1, 2018.

Team Volquartsen is looking forward to new opportunities and to supporting the transition fully.
