HAVA/LTSA Launches Florida Training Series

Dade City, FL – Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) announces the launch of an expanded shooter training series through its new Learn to Shoot Again (LTSA) program for the benefit of severely disabled veterans in the state of Florida. Operating in 10 states during 2017; the expanded series will tap the state's large veteran community and offer a learning platform to evaluate innovative training and motivational techniques. The initial pilot session was held on November 11, 2017 at the Dade City Rod & Gun Club in conjunction with the International Institute of Orthotics and Prosthetics. The session featured pistol shooting in an array of matches. Some of these students worked for over a year to attain the skill set to compete safely with their unique set of challenges.

Several of the most physically challenged students stood out for their progress in overcoming tremendous handicaps. One is classified as a quadriplegic, but had learned to walk with a walker. Using shooting as motivation, he can now walk short distances unassisted and stand-alone while he is shooting. Another lost the use of his right hand in a combat injury and learned to shoot with his left hand incredibly well while adapting his grip to use his right hand for support. These are the types of stories that HAVA and the LTSA division are producing every week as severely disabled instructors inspire, encourage and teach severely disabled students to reach for their maximum potential. LTSA expects to train over 400 severely injured veterans in 2018 and to encourage thousands more by sharing these amazing stories of the dominance of the human spirit.
