Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 Receives Golden Bullseye Award
Unequalled performance, features make SBE3 Shotgun of the Year for NRA magazine
ACCOKEEK, Md. – Accolades for the third generation of Benelli's acclaimed waterfowl shotgun, the Super Black Eagle 3, continue to roll in with the receipt of a coveted Golden Bullseye Award from American Rifleman magazine. The NRA editorial staff presented Benelli leaders with the award for Shotgun of the Year during a ceremony as the recent NRA Annual Meetings and Exhibits in Dallas.
“The Super Black Eagle is our flagship and it represents the apex for innovation and performance in a shotgun that’s truly meant to stand up to the challenges of hunting in any environment around the world,” said Benelli USA General Manager Tom DeBolt. “We’re extremely proud of the Super Black Eagle 3 and honored to receive the prestigious Golden Bullseye Award from an esteemed publication like American Hunter.”
Long synonymous with hardcore waterfowl hunting from the flooded timber of the Mississippi Flyway to the frozen coasts of the Bering Sea and points worldwide, the fabled Super Black Eagle received significant enhancements to its look, feel and performance prior to being unveiled at SHOT Show 2017 – all the while retaining the uniquely Benelli elements that brought the model such widespread acclaim over the last three decades.
“The response to the Super Black Eagle 3 has been phenomenal and now, even a calendar year after its introduction, demand is high,” DeBolt said. “That’s a testament to our entire team, both those in Italy and in the U.S., who have worked so hard to build a shotgun that has once again sets the bar for what a serious waterfowl shotgun should be.”
The Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 boasts dozens of new features and enhancements that improve the way the shotgun looks, feels and performs. At the heart of the new SBE3 is the inertia-driven action, which is centered around an Easy Locking System – an enhanced breech-closing system that eliminates the possibility for a shooter-induced stoppage when trying to softly close the bolt or when the shotgun is treated roughly in the blind. And because hardcore waterfowl hunters don’t stay out of the field in frigid weather, the new SBE3 is designed for easier operation with gloved and/or cold hands. The oversized bolt handle, oversized bolt release, oversized safety and redesigned magazine cap along with the enlarged load port make for easier operation in cold conditions.
Completely redesigned from butt pad to muzzle for easier operation, the design of the new Super Black Eagle 3 reduces felt recoil with its third generation ComforTech stock and Combtech cheek pad. More enjoyable to shoot with even the heaviest waterfowl loads, the SBE3’s inertia-driven action is easier to clean and requires less maintenance than the action of a conventional, gas-operated semi-auto.
In his American Rifleman story “Lord of the Wings,” Field Editor Jeff Johnston heaped high praise upon the shotgun after using it for a week to hunt the varied waterfowl species in New Zealand. Wrote Johnston: “With new features that offer real advantages over previous models, combined with upgrades in reliability, recoil mitigation, handling and aesthetics, I think the SBE has re-established itself as the ultimate waterfowl gun.
“Temperatures ebbed below freezing while rain and sleet pelted us like prisoners. I purposely did not clean the SBE3 once during a week of hunting, but rather abused it with mud and more than 1,000 shots,” Johnston continued, adding that the Super Black Eagle 3 is a “superior shotgun that will last for generations.”
Benelli revolutionized the shotgun world in 1967 with the development of the industry’s first Inertia Driven system that made semi-automatic shotguns capable of handling even the harshest hunting environments. Today, Benelli continues to innovate in a way that reverberates throughout the hunting and shooting world by producing firearms that make shooting easier and hunting more enjoyable.
