Michigan S3DA Hosts 3-D and Outdoor Regional Qualifiers

Williamsburg, KY – Michigan S3DA held their 3-D Regional on May 19th and their Outdoor Regional on May 20th at West Michigan Archery Center in Rockford, Michigan. Michigan S3DA State Coordinator, Laura Shambaugh said, “Although it was a cool and rainy weekend, we had two fun filled S3DA Regional Qualifiers at WMAC. Seeing these archers and their smiles after the tournament was the best part of the weekend. Thank you to the teams that made it to the regionals and we look forward to seeing you at the state tournament.”

Flaming Arrow Archery member Liam Bertsch said, “I love shooting the elk, because its heart is the size of my dinner plate at home.” Liam is an elementary student in the male fixed pins class for S3DA.

WMAC Volunteer and Coach, Bob Mack stated, “WMAC is pleased to be a part of the S3DA organization here in Michigan. S3DA is an emerging youth archery program nationally. Its primary mission is to provide both archery and bowhunting experiences to youth through programming made available through our schools and archery affiliated clubs and businesses. We believe those objectives are consistent with our organizational mission at WMAC to promote and advance the sport of archery through education, competition and recreational opportunities. WMAC is one of several organizations in West Michigan that has elected to support S3DA programming. Now in our second year of operation, we have engaged 23 students in the program, all with very distinct interests and needs in Target Archery, 3-D or both. We are pleased with our initial turnout of kids and are excited with their energy and enthusiasm for shooting a bow and learning new techniques for managing their shooting, learning discipline and managing their minds. All of that packaged in a team atmosphere that reinforces fun, relationships and good behavior. What more can you want for a child during their formative years.”

S3DA Michigan would like to send a special thanks to Jennifer Laux, SW Michigan Regional Coordinator for hosting these events, John Gardner for making sure the outdoor field was ready to go, Parry Russell for making sure the 3-D course was ready, and last but certainly not least, Andrew Bolen, for painting the stakes on the 3-D course.
