SAR Expands to Texas

Imperial, MO – The Student Air Rifle Program (SAR) is excited to expand to Texas with a sustainable partnership.

“SAR provides a well aligned comprehensive curriculum for schools. Like the National Archery in the Schools Program, SAR makes shooting sports education simple and effective with a successful train the trainer model. Texas Parks and Wildlife is proud to partner with SAR and looks forward to training teachers through the program”, noted Steve Hall, Texas Parks and Wildlife Hunter Education Coordinator.

“Schools are always looking for innovative ways to positively engage their students. SAR facilitates a hands-on and basic introduction to shooting sports with well thought-out lessons and instructor training. The Texas State Rifle Association Foundation is a natural partner with SAR.” Commented Angela Gerlich, TSRAF Executive Director. “As more schools start SAR in Texas, TSRAF will develop a tournament framework fostering responsibility, teamwork, self-esteem and confidence”, added Gerlich.

A total of 16 individuals were trained as SAR Basic Air Riflery Instructors (BARI) during the training workshop in Houston occurring November 26 – 28, 2018. Ten of the 16 were also trained as Basic Air Riflery Instructor Trainers (BARIT) allowing for more teachers to be trained as BARI in the future.

“We are excited to bring SAR to Texas. For more information on TX SAR, contact Steve Hall with TPWD or Angela Gerlich with TSRAF,” mentioned Jake Hindman, President and CEO of SAR.
