Williamsburg, KY – Scott Smith has been named as the S3DA Northeast Arkansas Regional Coordinator. As a Regional Coordinator, Scott will oversee the development and operation of S3DA within the northeast region, including educating and recruiting parties interested in forming new S3DA teams. This will entail working with the State Coordinator, and when possible, attending and assisting with National S3DA events. Scott is a pastor and youth leader, and the highlight of his week is going to archery practice and watching the kids grow in skill and respect for the outdoors.
Scott started shooting a bow at the age of fifteen and has hunted with archery equipment ever since. While preparing for hunting season last year, his child took an interest in archery. He set her up with some equipment and their journey in archery began. Scott and his daughter, Ruby, started shooting in local 3D competitions where she excelled. Scott said, “I saw how archery was benefiting her life through being outdoors and even helping her focus on school. We decided that other kids in our community should have the opportunity to enjoy archery, which led me to start our S3DA team we call 8 Ring Archery in Beebe, Arkansas. We grew very quickly to 30 members, and we are sharing archery and the love for the outdoors with everyone!”
About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers.
