The New Year hits like a storm. There are new products, retail promotions and responses to gun-grab attempts like the nonsense happening in Virginia. This news briefing is an attempt to sort a few things out.

From PHLster Holster, we have this bit of information: “We hardly ever do sales and promotions here at PHLster, but I believe this is an exceptional circumstance. From now until SHOT Show (Jan 21) anyone who orders an X300 or TLR-1 Floodlight or Spotlight will automatically receive in their cart a free corresponding ARC Enhanced WML Switch kit. At the end of the promotion, we're donating 10% of the proceeds to the VCDL to help them fight the ridiculous gun control measures in Virginia.”

Benchmade Knife Company made two exciting announcements about the new 535BK-2 Bugout and 537GY-1 Bailout variants. The Bugout family and the subsequent 537 Bailout models were designed to be a tough, lightweight carry option for folks looking for performance but who also wanted to shed unnecessary ounces. The Bugout was designed to be a go-to for backpackers and outdoor adventurers and last year’s 537 Bailout was a response from law enforcement and military, requesting a similar concept for their needs. Outfitted with woodland green anodized aluminum handles, and a CPM-M4 blade, this Bailout has a carbide glass breaker tip on the pommel for an additional touch of preparedness.

According to a story in the Washington Times, background checks on “gun purchases” totaled 28.3 million . . . in 2019. This occurred as Democrat presidential candidates uniformly called for increased regulations on ownership, possession and carry of firearms. The previous record was 27.5 million set during 2016 – an election year. A gun control organization adviser noted that FBI background check data are misleading as NICS is also used for “permit checks and rechecks” for concealed carry permits . . .
