South Carolina S3DA Hosts 2nd Indoor Regional Qualifier

Williamsburg, KY – Hawthorne Christian Academy located in Chester, South Carolina is a Christian day school for students in preschool through 12th grade. This modern facility features a large gymnasium where students have the opportunity to compete in various sports including archery. Hawthorne Christian Academy S3DA Team hosted the 2nd Indoor Regional Qualifier for South Carolina S3DA, with eighty-four archers from nine teams across the state competing.

South Carolina S3DA has tripled their student membership and doubled their team membership within the past year. While reflecting on this growth, we asked South Carolina S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock what she thought about this regional and growing the program for the future. She stated, “The level of competition has soared to new heights. I witnessed several archers in the Eagle Division taking the time to encourage and give pep talks to the younger archers that were competing in our new Jr. Eagle Division. I think adding and offering this new “Jr. Eagle division” for students under the age of eight will really help us to grow even faster. I am so impressed with these kids and their love for archery and the teachable moments that are trickling down to the younger archers.”

One of the parents, Amanda Vroegindewey said, “We are fairly new to this archery world and loving every bit of it! Everyone is so nice and helpful. We are learning that practice pays off.” Amanda’s son, Carson, is a current member of Midlands Archery Center and he shoots barebow. The parents, coaches, and archers all found themselves cheering for Carson as he drilled South Carolina’s first ever “robin-hood” during a tournament.

Thank you to Bethel University for providing scholarship certificates to the podium place finishers!

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
