Scholastic 3-D Archery Names Garness Montana State Coordinator

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery is pleased to announce Jeremy Garness as the NEW Montana State Coordinator. Jeremy will oversee all aspects of the S3DA program in Montana. Jeremy will recruit and hire Regional Coordinators to assist him with the development of S3DA within assigned regions of Montana. Jeremy’s goals as the State Coordinator include growing the program from the grassroots and providing kids across the state the opportunity to shoot and compete in archery events. Jeremy stated, “While we only have two teams in Montana, I look forward to seeing that number increase. We have established a great Board of Directors for our State Chapter and I look forward to working with them to make this happen.”

Jeremy Garness was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana where he still resides with his family. Garness was introduced to archery at the age of ten when him and his brother found an old fiberglass recurve up in a tree. With a quick Krylon paint job and a new string, they were flinging arrows, and this ignited a passion for archery! As a child, Garness traveled all over the state of Montana to archery shoots with his dad and brother. Garness had his first bow harvest on a Mule Deer doe at the age of thirteen and was immediately hooked.

In May of 2003, Jeremy married his wife Brooke, and shortly after, she took up the sport of archery and competition shooting. She came from a firearms family but had never shot a bow until they met, and she instantly fell in love. In 2007, Jeremy and Brooke were blessed with twins, Sage and Schafer. The twins are thirteen today and they both enjoy the sport of archery just as much as their parents. Garness and his family are incredibly involved in the archery community. Garness currently is an instructor for the 4-H Archery Program, Coach of Little Belt Archers S3DA Team, and President of the Great Falls Archery Club.

Garness started his twins shooting a Schafer Silvertip longbow at the age of 4 and within a couple years they graduated to their first compound bows. Garness has continued the tradition as his family now travels the state competing in tournaments just like he did when he was a child. When asking Garness why he wanted to be involved with S3DA and how he heard about the program, he stated, “I was drawn to S3DA mostly for the opportunities it provides to the kids. The opportunities I wished were around 30 years ago when I was their age.”

Garness said his dream and lifelong goal as a bowhunter has always been to harvest a Bighorn Sheep in his home state of Montana with a bow. Finally in 2020, after over 30 years of applying, his lifelong dream was fulfilled. Garness and his son, Schafer, spent countless hours over a four-month period scouting. On opening weekend, Garness was blessed to shoot a ram at 16 yards as he stood from his bed.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers.
