Williamsburg, KY –– Tennessee S3DA held a 3-D regional in the northeastern and southwestern part of the state with a tournament in Finger, TN and at Union County Archery Range in Maynardville, TN. The northeastern event was hosted by Crossroads Archery S3DA and the southwestern event was hosted by Southwest Tennessee Archers. Each course was beautifully put together, with a lot of time and hard work invested. The southwestern 3-D regional featured around 60 S3DA archers, while the northeastern 3-D regional featured roughly 28 S3DA archers vying for the top spot in their division and class with many spectators on hand.

Aiden Stubblefield is an S3DA member with Taylor’s Archery in Tullahoma, TN. Aiden competes in the elementary fixed pins division. His family traveled for several hours to compete in the northeastern tournament. Aiden said, “I loved everything about the tournament, especially how it was spread out and everyone was not right on top of each other.”

Cheryl Lyons is a parent and sponsor of Crossroads Archery S3DA. Cheryl’s daughter, Jordan, is a member of Crossroads Archery and unfortunately, she had a rather difficult day on the range. Cheryl spoke about their experience and said, “I can’t describe how hard of a day it was for Jordan and honestly me as well. She was so intimidated, but her group was rock steady. They encouraged her in word and in action to keep going, even when everything seemed bad. They did not judge or shame but embodied the true spirit of what makes archery such a great sport. We are blessed to have had such a great group of archers today.”

“I really liked the layout of the range today. I have shot here in the past and this is the best set-up I have seen. Thank you, Crossroads Archery, for a good tournament,” stated Randy Cogdill, Head Coach of F.A.C. Archery.

Tennessee S3DA Regional Coordinator, Robert Carter stated, “This course was put together with the hard work of both our kids and their parents. I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who worked so hard to make our first S3DA 3-D shoot successful. I also want to acknowledge Union County Archery Range owner, Randy Jones, for graciously allowing us to take over his range this past week. None of this would be possible without the generosity and support of our archery community. The competition and sportsmanship displayed here today was truly inspiring.” Tennessee S3DA now looks forward to another dual 3-D weekend on May 25th with a 3-D regional in Knoxville and Paris, TN, roughly 300 miles apart.

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving
