Tennessee: Governor Issues New Order, But Firearms Industry Remains “Essential”

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee issued Executive Order No. 23 requiring Tennesseans to stay home unless they are participating in “essential activities.” This order will remain in effect through April 14, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

Gov. Lee’s new order references “essential” businesses and activities listed in Executive Order No. 22. As we previously reported, that order incorporates the U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security CISA guidance, which includes firearm manufacturers, distributors, retailers and ranges. This critically important language was incorporated in the recently updated CISA guidance at the request of NSSF®. Additionally, the order also specificallyincludes “firearm and ammunition suppliers and retailers for purposes of safety and security” as essential.

NSSF urges all members to closely follow CDC guidelines, practice social distancing and take precautions to protect the health of their employees and customers. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as they become available.
