Kentucky S3DA Hosts 2nd Indoor Regional Qualifier

Daviess County, KY – On January 8th and 9th at the Lions Club Fairgrounds in Daviess County, Kentucky S3DA archers met to continue their competitive indoor season. Masks were to be worn at all times (except while in the act of shooting), and hand sanitizer was available throughout the building. This event featured sixteen teams with a total of 140 archers from across the Bluegrass State. Each archer was allowed to have ONLY two spectators in order to keep the numbers to an acceptable limit. All sports are experiencing the same effects from COVID and one common theme is less noise and less people, but that did not put a damper on these archer’s desire to shoot and keep helping one another.

Daviess County Assistant Coach, Amy Bradshaw saw a couple of moments within the tournament that caught her eye. “Our older archers were taking the younger archers under their wings and helping them to learn to advance their abilities. They are always ready with encouraging words and praise for the younger archers. Even though they are limited in how much assistance they can offer during the tournament now, they are more than willing to take their time and help the younger kids when they can.”

No matter what the scores reflected, archery seems to have a special bond between the participants. Every single student is learning, no matter the length of time they have been in the sport. When Owensboro Catholic High School Archery Coach Rick Hayden and Assistant Coach Tom Rhodes were asked the one thing they would like to tell their students, their response was simple. “We just want to see them do their best to improve one shot at a time and have fun. We teach them to have fun, relax and don’t focus on the last arrow, but focus on what’s in front of you.”

Matt Murphy would like to thank the sponsors of the event: Cedar Stix, Diane’s Family Bakery, Wendy’s and Little Kentucky Smokehouse. Be sure to check out the Kentucky Scholastic 3D Archery Facebook page for more information on the program and upcoming events.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
