Talladega Marksmanship Park Set to Host New Archery Tournament in September

TALLADEGA, Ala. – The Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) Talladega Marksmanship Park is excited to host its first 3D Archery Tournament! The inaugural event will take place Saturday, Sept. 11, on the Park’s new 20-lane, life-size 3D Archery Range. Registration begins at 7 a.m. the day of the tournament.

The 3D Archery Tournament is for participants 10 and up, with entry fees of $20 for each class (Fix Pin, Bare Bow and Open). Plaques will be awarded to top individuals. Those curious about archery or the newly constructed archery range at Talladega may also sign up for a Fun Round for half the price.

Other events to look forward to at Talladega in September include the CMP’s annual 5K Range Run & 1K Fun Run. Part of the Anniston Runners Club Challenge Series, the race is open to all ages – with participants from ages 3 to 72 participating in 2020. Those interested may register online at https://runsignup.com/Race/AL/Talladega/CMP5KRangeRun. For more information, email CMP’s Matt Camp at mcamp@thecmp.org.

Another match open to all ages in September is the Rimfire Sporter rifle match, featuring three classes: O-Class for open sights, T-Class for telescopes and TU for tactical/unlimited. The course of fire begins at 50 yards, with a sighting or practice series, followed by shots for record in slow- and rapid-fire prone position. The course of fire also includes slow- and rapid-fire sitting/kneeling position and slow- and rapid-fire standing, at 25 yards. Register for the event at https://ct.thecmp.org/2021SeptRFS.

Regular Talladega monthly matches, like the 3-Gun Monthly Match, are also set to fire. The 3-Gun is a practical shooting competition where each stage requires the competitor to use and transition between a combination of rifles, handguns and shotguns. For more information, visit 3-Gun Nation at http://3gunnation.com/news. Questions may be sent to Keegan Singleton, match director, at talladega3gun@gmail.com or the Talladega Marksmanship Park at cmptalladega@thecmp.org.

For highpower rifle enthusiasts, be sure to sign up for the Monthly 3x600 Match. The course of fire for this event will be 60 shots for record at 600 yards. Each string will consist of two sighting shots and 20 shots for record. Entry fee is $35 per shooter ($25 for juniors 18 and under).

Rifle competitors may also be interested in the 800 Aggregate Rifle match, open to the public. Competition course is 80 total record shots: 20 shots at 200 yards (standing), 20 shots at 200 yards (sitting rapid fire) 20 shots at 300 yards (prone rapid fire) in 70 seconds and 20 shots at 600 yards (prone slow fire), with two sighters at each stage. Entry fee is $50 for open competitors and $30 for junior competitors.

About the Talladega Marksmanship Park:

Aptly named “The Home of Marksmanship,” the park is a worthy destination for firearm supporters and guests looking for practice, competition and mindful learning opportunities. Featuring CMP electronic targets and scoring monitors that can only be found at the 500-acre facility, the park regularly hosts rifle, pistol and shotgun events all year long. The CMP’s Unknown Distance Range at Talladega also allows guests to practice their skills in the field of over 100 steel targets, out to 625 yards. The new 20-lane Archery Range with life-size 3D targets provides even more marksmanship fun at the Park.

The public is welcome daily, all year long, to test out their firearms or to simply take a tour of the grounds. Off of the firing line, the Club House holds a fully-stocked Pro Shop that includes an exclusive collection of rifles, ammunition, marksmanship accessories and CMP memorabilia that is always open during park hours.
