Williamsburg, KY – West Michigan Archery Center in Rockford, Michigan hosted the 2022 Michigan S3DA Outdoor Target State Championship. Nearly, 60 archers from six S3DA teams participated in the event. As archers competed in the head-to-head elimination rounds, you could see them giving each other fist bumps, high fives, and lots of encouragement. Even though they were competing directly against each other for placement, they were kind and respectful to one another. Many of the archers participating in this event were shooting an Outdoor Target State event for the first time and even more podiumed for their very first time.
“My favorite part of the Outdoor Target State Championship was the head-to-head competition. I was excited that I made it as far as I did and brought home a 2nd place medal,” stated Central Michigan Goldstar’s archer, James Bauman.
Michigan S3DA State Coordinator, Cara Waite stated, “West Michigan Archery Center has a great facility, and we are always grateful for their hospitality. Michigan saw a huge increase in participation for Outdoor Target this year almost doubling the number of participants (32) from last year. Overall, this was a very successful tournament, and many friendships were made. I look forward to growing more teams across the state throughout the off season and coming back with even more archers for next year’s event.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the youth demonstrating their dedication to the sport and not giving up no matter what. These youth archers showcase some amazing skills. We could not have asked for better weather, but the wind did pose a challenge that the kids overcame with flying colors. S3DA is undoubtedly one of the key elements in providing opportunity, training, and a clear path towards future success for youth in multiple forms in the sport of archery,” stated Aim to Achieve Head Coach, Michael George.
No college or university representatives were present for the event. However, many schools including but not limited to: Union College, University of the Cumberland’s, Rend Lake College, Lindsey Wilson College, and Lindenwood University sent college scholarship certificates. About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
