S3DA Promotes Conservation at the Eastern Indoor National Championship

Williamsburg, KY – The S3DA program held their 9th annual S3DA Eastern Indoor National Championship at the Owensboro Convention Center in Owensboro, Kentucky on February 29th – March 3rd, 2024. As part of the event, S3DA had a conservation booth available to help S3DA archers, parents, coaches, and spectators become more aware that the program is actively promoting bowhunting and outdoor activities to bridge the gap between competition and conservation. The conservation booth was ran by National S3DA Conservation Coordinator, Patty Reel, who talked to the archers, answered questions, and imparted wisdom about archery, hunting, and conservation.

Archers and their families had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and win some hunting-related prizes from various companies. The drawing for each of these prizes was held the morning of Sunday, March 3rd. Alan Piltz with Inside Out Archers of Kentucky won a Bow Spider package. Trystan Darnell with Hardin County Archery Team won a Barronette Archery blind. Jayden Gerberding with Rigney’s School of Archery and Abigail Ellis with Timberwolf Archery and Outdoors both won Rough Ryder Pocket Knives. Drawings were also held for many items donated by Tractor Supply. S3DA would like to thank all of the companies that donated products to allow further growth of the S3DA Conservation program.

Reel said, “The S3DA Eastern Indoor National Championship is typically S3DA’s largest event and it has been such an exciting event since I joined the staff. The thing I love the most is seeing all of the kids coming up to the conservation booth loaded with questions. They are like little sponges. They soak up everything you tell them.”

Jarvis Green, a coach with the York-Hopewell Archers stated, “Our team, York-Hopewell, is new to the S3DA program. We have around twenty archers, and we continue to see tremendous growth in these kids each time they shoot. We could not be more pleased with all the people we are meeting and the experiences that this is providing for our team’s archery family. We are all about the outdoors and encourage our kids to learn more about the land, water, and wildlife every chance they get. It’s wonderful to be in a program that promotes competition and conservation together.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
