Whitetails Unlimited recently awarded a $5,000 grant to the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League for the 2019 Trap Shooting Championship being held in Alexandria, Minnesota. This brings the two year total WTU has contributed to $10,000. The event will take place June 10-18 with more than 330 high schools and 8,500 student athletes participating. The primary discipline is 5-Stand trap. This is hailed as the world’s largest shooting sport event with a total attendance of 25,000 including spectators.
Student athletes compete in both individual and team events. There are three classifications of competition: Novice, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Classifications are determined by the athlete’s year-end average weekly score, which ensures that athletes are competing against athletes with similar skill level.
“The size of this shoot is simply awesome,“ says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “An event like this falls right in line with our Staying on Target initiative.”
