Scholastic 3D Archery Sets Record Participation at Virtual Indoor National Championship

Williamsburg, KY – Scholastic 3-D Archery recently held their largest event ever with record participation of nearly 1,600 registered archers. The 6th annual Indoor National Championship was scheduled to be held at the Owensboro Convention Center in Owensboro, Kentucky the first weekend of March. However, with the winter resurgence of COVID cases, S3DA made the decision early to host the National Championship in a “virtual” format for 2021 with the plan to return to Owensboro in 2022. The Scholastic 3-D Archery National Staff worked diligently on a plan to change the format to a “virtual” event which would allow states to conduct the national tournament in a smaller “mini-regional” type format with archers competing at multiple locations across the United States. Each state created their own schedules and notified participants and their families of when registration would be available as well as where the event(s) would be held.

Each state had the discretion to facilitate their portion of the national tournament in a way that was the most efficient to accommodate their numbers while also following local and state CDC guidelines. While archers shot at multiple locations, the format was the same as in years past, which is (NFAA) five-spot style, including 30 arrows (6 shooting ends of 5 arrows each) and archers had the option to choose to shoot a single face target or a 5-spot target.

Holly Helton, S3DA Executive Director stated, “We knew we had to keep our members’ safety top priority while also ensuring they had an opportunity to compete! I am proud of the hard work from our National Staff, State Coordinators, host teams and volunteers to pull off a record-breaking event and of the members and families for trusting us. I look forward to seeing everybody in person for 2022!”

Although the event was virtual, it was the largest S3DA Indoor National Championship to date with nearly 1,600 registered archers from 162 teams and 24 states participating in the competition. To view the scores from this event, please click on the link here.

Scholastic 3-D Archery would like to thank all the State Coordinators, Regional Coordinators, coaches, parents, and volunteers that worked tirelessly to make each “mini-regional” national event possible. Most importantly, we would like to thank our student members for their participation. S3DA is extremely grateful for the willingness to do whatever was necessary to allow the student archers of S3DA the opportunity to compete.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
