Blackketter Wins PRS Finale and Points Race With A-Tip™Bullets

(Grand Island, Neb.) — The legend of the A-Tip™ bullet from Hornady® is being written on the shooting ranges of America, and the opening line is simple: These bullets win championships.

Just ask Clay Blackketter.

The professional shooter from Oklahoma City won the Open Class division of the Precision Rifle Series Finale on Nov. 17 in Finger, TN, as well as the overall points race — and he did it shooting A-Tip™ bullets.

Professional Rifle Series (PRS) matches test competitors’ precision shooting ability over a variety of distances, wind conditions and shooting positions. The top 150 Qualified Pro Series PRS competitors faced off in the finale.

Blackketter, who has competed in the PRS since 2017,heard about A-Tip™ bullets from Team Hornady shooter Tate Streater, who had the chance to test them before their public release. Blackketter first competed with A-Tip™ bullets in July at the Hornady Precision Rifle Challenge in Utah.

With a 6mm Creedmoor loaded with 110 gr A-Tip™ bullets, he achieved 6- to 8-inch (inch, not MOA) vertical spreads at a mile over six shots and took home a second-place finish.

He was convinced, he said.

Blackketter, who finished eighth in the PRS last year, kept right on shooting A-Tip™ bullets this season and never got less than third place in any competition.

Asked if he would agree that A-Tip™ bullets make even good shooters better right out of the box, Blackketter said, “100 percent.”

“Shooters are more likely to hit with A-Tip™ bullets no matter what the conditions are,” he said. “They are exactly as good or better than they said they would be.”

Blackketter said A-Tip™ bullets are extremely consistent. Each bullet performs just like the one before, and they perform better in the wind. Even if the wind changes slightly, they are more likely to stay on target without adjusting the aiming point.

“We’ve been working for years to provide this level of bullet performance to the shooting community,”Hornady® Vice President Jason Hornady said. “So, seeing our efforts come to fruition like this is truly rewarding. We knew we had some outstanding products, but if they weren’t in the right hands, their potential wouldn’t have been realized.”

Asked what he would tell other shooters about A-Tip™, Blackketter said, “I would probably ask them if they like hitting targets more than they like missing targets.”

A few points can win a match — or a season — so every shot counts.

Winning the PRS Finale and the overall points race is exactly what Blackketter set out to do this season.

“Sometimes it goes like you plan,” he said … with a big assist from A-Tip™ bullets.

Introduced in mid-2019, A-Tip™ bullets feature an aluminum tip that’s precision machined and longer than polymer tips. That moves the center of gravity and enhances inflight stability, resulting in tighter groups and reduced drag variability. In addition, A-Tip™ bullets are sequentially packaged for the ultimate in consistent performance.
