Team Mathews Archer Lisell Jama Defends Nimes Title

Sparta, Wisconsin – Team Mathews archer, Lisell Jaatma, won by a three-point spread, 147-144, in a final against teammate Meeri-Marita Paas at the World Archery Event in Nimes, France.

This impressive victory marks back-to-back wins for Jaatma, who beat teammate Tanja Jensen in last year’s finals. Having had a break-out win at this venue 12 months ago, and then again this year is special, especially after a significantly disrupted year in between the two competitions.

Under the focus of the cameras, although without the same passionate crowd that normally gathers to watch the medal matches in Nimes, she dealt exceptionally well with the expectation she said she felt was placed on her shoulders following her prior result in this arena.

“It feels great,” said Jaatma. “I was pretty nervous and under a lot of pressure, so it makes the win that much better.”

The 21-year-old dropped two points in the first end but only one more over the next 12 arrows, steadily building a lead that would prove unassailable, especially after Paas dropped two of her last three shots into the nine ring.
