RICHMOND, Va. —Sharon Wallace, German Precision Optics (GPO) USA- sponsored 3-D archer takes top podium at the ASA TRU Ball & Black Eagle Pro/AM tournament held in London, Ky. last weekend.
This is always a challenging tournament for Wallace and the other competitors, with power lines that create darkness and shadows playing tricks on shots and making shooting at targets more difficult than usual. Wallace opted for contacts for this shoot, as it would give her less glare and provide more confidence in judging her shots. Looks like this decision paid off in spades!
Shooting three up on Friday and three up on Saturday, gave her a lead. She was the only female pro to shoot an up score. Going into the shoot down she held a 14-point lead. After five targets no one was within 10 points of her score – sealing the gold! Wallace finished with a score of 456, followed by Emily McCarthy with a 444 in second and Cara Kelly with a 441 taking third.
“This is always such a tough tournament for me. It was an incredible feeling to be able overcome those obstacles and take home the gold finally,” said Sharon Wallace. “I want to thank GPO for their support. In the Woman’s Pro Class, we shoot unknown distances. With my GPO 10x42s I can always see my targets crystal clear.”
ASA 3-D archery features competitive rounds shooting lifelike, three-dimensional foam animal targets. Amateur classes are decided by the final totals after 40 targets. Pro Classes shoot the same 40 targets and then the top five shooters in each Pro Class advance to a shootdown. During the shootdown each archer shoots an additional six targets with a more difficult 14-point ring added to enhance the risk and reward for extreme accuracy. There is a total of six ASA tournaments each year. The next tournament, the Elite Archery Pro AM, is slated for March 26-29 in Russel County, Ala.
