Williamsburg, KY – Pennsylvania S3DA kicked off their 3D competition season in the mountains of Tioga County, Pennsylvania. The Southern Tioga School District encourages students to explore the sport of archery and offers students the opportunity to join the North Penn-Liberty High School archery team called Southern Tioga Area Bowhunters. Eric Broughton, Southern Tioga Area Bowhunters Head Coach and PA Regional Coordinator stated, “Last year’s tournament went well, and with the turnout we had, we expected the event to grow even more this year. We were very surprised when registration closed that we nearly tripled the number of shooters from last year. Between registrations and walk-ups, we had archers compete from five S3DA teams. We would like to thank everyone that attended this event and invite everyone to come back, as we hope to triple the numbers again for next year.
The cloudy coverage did not stop the archers from having a fun-filled day! There were notable sportsmanship moments that stood out, but a very touching moment was watching the Jr. Eagle archers with their little bows and quivers dragging the ground encouraging one another and helping each other score. Pennsylvania S3DA State Coordinator, Pete Slusser said, “You see a lot of negative aspects that accompany other sports and typically those sports are a group setting. Archery provides the opportunity to compete as an individual and not have to rely on someone else. These kids do a great job because they care about one another, and they want to better themselves and their team. That is what makes the S3DA program so enjoyable as a parent, a coach, or a competitor.”
“We would like to say thank you to Eric and his STAB crew for putting on an excellent shoot. Their attention to detail made it a huge success. We saw many first-time competitors and others who were shooting 3D for the first time after competing in Indoor this winter. I was impressed by the skill level with many archers breaking the 200 barrier on 20 targets. I was even more impressed by the sportsmanship and camaraderie I saw displayed all day,” stated Reading Archery Club Head Coach, Bob Lauffer.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
