120th Grand American World Trap Shooting Championships

SPARTA (IL) - 2019 marks the 120th anniversary of the Amateur Trapshooting Association Grand American World Trapshooting Championships. The tournament will be contested at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex (Sparta Illinois) July 31 – August 10. ATA Officials expect about 5,000 participants and about the same number of spectators from all over the world.

Garmin USA will enter as a Grand American sponsor this year and will be promoting their product line on their sponsored 5-Stand field just west of the east maintenance building, August 3-5. Those are also the dates of the Garmin USA 5-Stand Event with 18 trophies and 20 cases of shells up for grabs. A portion of all entry fees will be donated to Kids & Clays. The 5-Stand field will be open for demo and practice shooting August 3 through 9.

Also new at the Grand this year will be the Challenger Short Shell competition on the west end of the trap line August 4-5. Trophies will be offered in singles classes and a portion of the entry fees will go to Kids and Clays. Details are in the Grand program and take advantage of this opportunity to shoot a few of these new Challenger shells!

Dave Miller of CZ-USA is the current holder of a clay target shooting Guinness World Record and he’s gearing up for another attempt. Qualifications will be held for youth ATA members during the AIM Championships and the Grand American this year. Two lucky qualifiers will be selected, and the record attempt will be made in October. The goal is to shatter the record for the most clay targets shot in 12 hours by a team of five shooters. Two of the shooters will be from the qualifications at the Grand and two from the SCTP Championships in July. Dave Miller will round out the squad as the fifth shooter. Complete details will be available at

The White Flyer Blue Gray competition following Grand American opening ceremonies on Monday August 5 will have some serious revisions this year. The Men’s team competition will be 25 pair of 27 yard doubles and the category competition 25 pair of 22 yard doubles. In addition, the categories eligible this year will be Sub-Jr, Junior, Junior Gold, Lady I and Veteran. As in the past, both teams will be on the line at the same time alternating shots and active “heckling” will be encouraged. The evening will end again this year with the massive and impressive White Flyer fireworks display.

When the traditional Nostalgia Shoot became available for sponsorship support this year, it was immediately picked up by Remington. The nostalgia event presents a perfect opportunity for Remington to promote the newly reintroduced Peters Premier Blue target loads. These eight-crimp blue hulled shells are packaged in a retro Peters box and feature the superior and reliable ammo that target shooters have come to trust and rely on for trophy-winning scores. Thanks to Remington for keeping one of our Grand American “nostalgic” traditions alive!
