Sandunes Archery Club Hosts South Carolina 3D Regional Qualifier

Williamsburg, KY – The Sandunes Archery Club is the oldest archery club in the state of South Carolina. It’s located at the Socastee Recreation Park in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The club recently hosted a joint 3D regional qualifier with the South Carolina ASA (Archery Shooter’s Association) and South Carolina S3DA program. The course featured some new amusing targets including a baboon and stegosaurus, which was very amusing for some archers. It was a different 3D course, but overall, the smiles and laughter were priceless. Archers from eleven S3DA teams competed in this tournament for their chance to qualify for the South Carolina S3DA 3D State Championship.

The South Carolina S3DA program continues to grow with hundreds of youth memberships and seventeen teams. The state recently used a club grant to add two new teams Eagle Eye Archery and Charleston Courage Archery. South Carolina S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock said that she has seen a big increase of S3DA members joining the ASA program by hosting the S3DA and ASA tournaments together on the same weekend. She went on to say, “The Myrtle Beach 3D regional is one of the most exciting tournaments for South Carolina S3DA. Archers must compete in this 3D regional event to qualify for the fishing trip that we take the next day in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. A lot of families take this time to get together for reunions or vacations and some people just drive in for a day at the beach.”

A couple of the archers competed in their first ever 3D shoot and there were some first-time podium finishers as well. Peter Earl is an Eagle that shoots in the pins class for Palmetto Center Seekers. Peter has been with the S3DA program for just a little over two years. Peter said, “I shot my personal best in this tournament with seven 12’s and a score of 210. I won first place in my age division and class and was awarded two pins. I had an absolute blast and can’t wait to get back out on the range again.”

The Sandunes Archery Club staff would like to acknowledge those that promote the sport of archery in South Carolina. ASA State Director, Dave Shirley, S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock, NASP State Coordinator, SSGT. Phil Robertson and all the schools in the state that support NASP including but not limited to archery shops, groups, and coaches. Thank you for all that you do to not only support us, but the clubs and archers in the state.

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of youth archers.
