South Carolina S3DA Hosts 3D Regional

Williamsburg, KY – The South Carolina S3DA program held their first joint 3D regional qualifier of the 2023 season with the ASA (Archery Shooters Association) at Dogwood Point - Midlands Archery Center in Leesville, South Carolina. The weather wasn’t very cooperative as it was cloudy and rainy for most of the day. South Carolina State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock was impressed with the attendance, especially the new archers and their families coming out despite the weather. Twenty-seven of the fifty-seven archers from eleven S3DA teams that shot in this competition were shooting 3D archery for the first time. Parents were gathered under umbrellas talking and sharing about the unpredictable things that happen in the sport of archery. The archers were smiling, laughing, and having a blast in the wet conditions.

This was the first S3DA archery competition that parents Donna and Kevin Carver had ever attended. Their children, Ava, and Gracie, shoot for Palmetto Center Seekers. When asked for their feedback on the event, they stated, “The amount of encouragement shown towards the younger archers from the more experienced archers is incredible. The archers are respectful, and courtesy was shown throughout the competition. The archers took turns rotating on who would shoot first at the stake and one entire group helped a fellow archer look for a lost arrow.”

South Carolina State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock said, “For the past three years, our organization has worked closely with ASA, NFAA, and USA Archery to promote the sport of archery in South Carolina. The results are evident as the number of archers has increased across the board for these organizations. A joint effort by the state coordinators has made this possible by cross-pollinating these groups. Our commitment to grow archery and conservation across the state is important to us as leaders.”

S3DA youth participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Youth members can participate at regional, state and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting.
