Continues to Offer Free Online Training for Protecting Houses of Worship

West Bend, WI – “Evil does exist in this world, and I and other [church] members are not going to allow evil to succeed.” Those were the words of Jack Wilson, the man who stopped the church shooter at West Freeway Church of Christ in Texas on December 29, 2019.

In the wake of recent attacks against religious communities in both Texas and New York, the USCCA announced that it has launched a national donation campaign to help support both religious communities throughout the month of January.

The USCCA will give all profits from its new book — Keeping Your Church Safe — to the community of the West Freeway Church of Christ (White Settlement, Texas) and organizations within New York City’s Jewish community. In just a few short days, USCCA’s campaign has already raised over $10,000 that will be donated equally to the affected communities.

“It’s heartbreaking and unacceptable,” USCCA’s President and Founder Tim Schmidt said today. “On behalf of the entire USCCA community, we are praying for those affected by these most recent attacks, and particularly for those who lost their lives and were injured. We care deeply about the safety of all communities of faith and are committed to helping all Americans protect themselves. This is an opportunity to also allow our broader community to give back and help make America’s communities safer.”

The USCCA’s donation campaign also follows a months-long effort by the USCCA to offer free training and educational materials with a specific focus on protecting houses of worship and stopping mass shooters. The USCCA’s free videos feature USCCA trainers leading sessions on what to do when there is an active shooter in your church, what you can do to prepare, where your security team members should sit, tips on deadly force decision making and the proper size of a house of worship security team.

Schmidt noted that many more lives were saved in the West Freeway Church of Christ shooting because a volunteer security team was armed and present to engage the gunman. Head of security, Jack Wilson, who is a former reserve deputy sheriff and firearms instructor, shot the gunman just seconds after he shot down two parishioners.

“What Jack Wilson did exemplifies the values we hold dearest at the USCCA,” Schmidt continued. “Jack stopped evil that day because he took it upon himself to be a prepared protector for his community. He trained, prepared the people around him and stepped forward to protect his brothers and sisters at his church. This is why the USCCA exists.”

The USCCA is the largest and fastest-growing association focused entirely on providing self-defense knowledge, training and legal protection for responsibly armed Americans. Find out more about the USCCA at www.uscca.com.
