Williamsburg, KY – Alabama S3DA held their 1st regional qualifier of the 2019 3-D season in conjunction with Marshall County Bowhunters in Albertville, Alabama. Alabama S3DA shooters received great hospitality and faced a very challenging 3-D range. Archers came as far as the Florida Panhandle, some traveling more than five hours one way to participate. One of the archers, Emily Leigeber, won a drawing for a $25 Gift Card provided by a local business, KT Heating & Air.

Jannah Mann, High School Female Open archer stated, “This was a very fun and challenging course.” Middle School Female Open archer, Katie Skinner said, “This range was difficult compared to other ranges that I have shot on. I advised everyone to be on the lookout for snakes, as my group encountered a rather large one as we were heading to our last target.”

North Alabama Regional Coordinator, Shelley Skinner stated, “It is encouraging to see the local community and the families of our young shooters come together to support S3DA and promote this great sport of archery. The kids had a good time and were able to make some new friends at this event. We are really looking forward to our next 3-D Regional on April 13th in Mount Olive, Alabama.”

Alabama State Coordinator Charmen McAlpine said, “Thank you to everyone that came out and shot in this regional. Thank you to the parents and coaches for making sure these kids have the opportunity to compete. Special thanks to Marshall County Bowhunters for hosting this event. We look forward to the remainder of the 3-D season.”

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
