Pennsylvania S3DA Hosts 1st Indoor Regional of 2021

Williamsburg, KY – Hillside Rod & Gun Club in Blossburg, PA, hosted the first Indoor Regional of the 2021 competition season for Pennsylvania S3DA. This event was the first Indoor Regional held in the North Central region with fifteen archers from two different S3DA teams attending the event and competing for their chance to qualify for the Pennsylvania Indoor State Championship. Pennsylvania S3DA State Coordinator, Patricia Butts attended the event and stated, “This was my first archery event, and I was very impressed with the skills of these student members, they are supported by their peers, parents, and coaches. I am looking forward to attending more events soon.”

With the global pandemic raging across the country, S3DA has followed various social distancing measures including limiting spectators, archers and the ability of archers to wait for possible tied scores. In light of this, for the 2021 competition season S3DA has implemented inside-out X scoring during all indoor tournaments. The inside-out X scoring is the best means to break possible ties without the need for archers to be onsite.

Reading Archery Cub Head Coach, Bob Lauffer said, “I thought it was wonderful to have our first ever tournament in the North Central region of Pennsylvania. With everything going on around the country, we took extra precautions with temperature checks, spacing the archers out, and requiring masks except for in the act of shooting. By having a plan in place, we were able to sit back and watch these archers perform some outstanding shooting. We really appreciate Pennsylvania Regional Coordinator, Eric Broughton for all his hard work in hosting an excellent event.”

About Scholastic 3-D Archery

Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic

3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
