Field & Stream Interview With Biden Kicks Off Series

New York, NY - Field & Stream, the nation's largest and oldest outdoor publication, sat down with Vice President Joe Biden for an exclusive interview to address sportsmen's concerns with the administration's proposed firearms regulations. The publication solicited questions from readers for the interview which covered topics including universal background checks, limits on magazine capacity, proposed firearms bans, and views on the Second Amendment. The full interview is available at FieldandStream.com/biden and will also be featured in an upcoming issue of the magazine.

This interview is the first in Field & Stream's series on gun rights and Second Amendment issues. In the coming weeks the magazine will speak to the most prominent figures in the debate including politicians, heads of conservation and sportsmen's groups, executives from firearms companies, and industry leaders and representatives in the sporting community. Next up is an interview with Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association.

"Sportsmen are trying to determine how the administration's proposals and policies will impact the pursuit of their pastimes," said Anthony Licata, Editor-in-Chief of Field & Stream, who conducted the interview. "There are a lot of questions that are being glossed over or ignored in the coverage of this issue which is why we were so happy to give hunters and recreational shooters direct access to the White House and a voice in the media coverage."

During the candid hour plus long interview, Vice President Biden shared his views on issues of specific interest to sportsmen and gun owners including enforceability of universal background checks and if they would they lead to a national gun registry; why AR-type rifles are being singled out for exclusion; how to effectively bar those with mental health issues from obtaining firearms; magazine capacity bans; and the Vice President's exposure to hunting and firearms.

Field & Stream readers submitted more than 1,000 questions via email for Vice President Biden over a five day period. The magazine selected questions that best illustrated the concerns echoed in the multitude of comments received. Licata addressed the questions to Biden during an interview at the White House on February 14, 2013.

"We got a lot of tough, thought-provoking questions from readers," said Licata "Outdoorsmen have really engaged in this debate and I hope this inspires even more to become involved in the conversation."
